An introduction from our Chair: Paul Bessant – Founder of Retail Knowledge

Paul founded the Retail Risk – London conference in 2002 in response to a growing need for retailers to collaborate in order to beat organised crime. In so doing he established what has now become the world’s leading risk management conference series, operating annually across five continents.

In 2017, as a result of the horror of the Manchester Arena bombings, Paul resolved to produce a conference specifically aimed at meeting risk management challenges and responding to increased incidence of organised criminal activities in large public spaces.

Welcome to the ARENA Conference 2020.

It is my pleasure to introduce myself as this year’s Chair.

Today criminal activity permeates just about every department in every business or organisation involved with large public events. In establishing ARENA, my vision is for a conference that educates all executives involved in large scale public events, from across the spectrum of business disciplines (not just the risk manager or head of security), about how to recognise, anticipate and then successful meet the challenges posed by an evolving criminal threat to the business through their department whilst at the same time having due regard for commercial practicalities and economic realities.
